Metformin, good or bad?

I am convinced that the various generic brands of metformin have different formulations of the fillers used to make the tablets. Some brands I would be ok with, some would send me to the loo urgently. I couldn't guarantee which generic brand I would get from the chemist. I suffered with gastro effects from metformin for 17 years until I'd had enough and got prescribed other meds.

Normal and slow release gave me fast release!
 
Had the same problem i was fine when my medication was left alone but i had a doctor who persisted to interfere and it made me ill now im on 1 a day and dont see that doctor anymore!

managed to get down to 2 a day now my Hba1c is do good I can come off the metformin (still 2 insulins)
 
Metformin was my first drug, after several years of diet and exercise and I hated it. My husband is now on it and I gag at the sight of his tablets which seem larger then the ones I had and he has to take two pairs a day.
I was convinced that it gave me wind and stomach pain and a friend of my husband's agreed. One of our GPs changed me to empagliflozin and I made a discovery....It was causing my brain fog and tendency to mix the first sound of adjacent spoken words.
I was, once more. clear headed and mentioned it to my husband who said that he had noticed the change too. His monster pills don't seem to affect him in this way.
 
I have never had a problem with metformin, either. Over 20 years.
I did come off it for a few years, when I had lost a lot of weight. Decided to have it again when HbA1c started to increase, again.

I find that the long acting version is most effective, 500mg twice a day - but that is for me - remember diabetes is different for all of us - we are all different.
