Metformin doesnt agree with me, but when I was first diagnosed T2 the doc was determined I was going to take it and kept changing the dose around and swapping from standard to modified release. With Just one standard release my blood sugars came down -so did my weight. Increasing the dose didnt do anything to my blood sugars and my weight loss was spectacular, as were my stomach problems, to the point of being dangerous (Several Kg a day!!!!). So we changed to the MR/SR versions which went straight through me without touching the sides, however many I took. So having had my blood sugars decreasing the new version of metformin did nothing for me as I couldnt digest and absorb them, consequently my blood sugars increased. We then moved on to Gliclazide which suits me fine, but for some reason the doc wanted to try me on Linagliptin a while back. Now that did put my blood sugars up noticeably, and after 3 days I went back with what suits me. Apparently its not an unknown reaction to that drug. The moral of this story is, that we are all different, and there are various reason why individuals might find a drug does the opposite to what it should. However with diabetes there are several alternatives if one drug doesnt suit, so discuss it with your medical team
