Metformin induced insomnia

Around a month ago I started taking Metformin (500mg), and from about a week in I have been plagued with sleep issues.

I used to be a pretty good sleeper, but now find it incredibly difficult to get to sleep. When I do finally drift off I am easily woken and then find it near impossible to get back to sleep again. I’ve stopped reading in bed (something I’ve done since childhood), make sure to get exercise during the day (I work from home so have become a little ‘stagnant’), I only drink coffee in the mornings, only look at my phone at night to set my alarm etc etc. I always used to find that popping an audio book on would help me sleep but since starting the Metformin that isn’t working either.

It’s getting to the point where I am getting anxious about going to bed in case I can’t sleep which obviously just makes it harder so I seem to be in a never ending loop of insomnia.

Has anyone else found this? And if so, any suggestions as to what else I can try?
