I’ve had to stop Metformin due to diarrhoea I’ve been of it for a month now and have really high sugars even tho I monitor my diet carefully. They are averaging between 18-22 and I get terrible headaches. I’ve seen the diabetic nurse and she knows I’ve tried all sorts of diabetic meds over the years and have been on Metformin for 12 years now and also take gliclazide and insulin but I’ve increased my insulin now to 50 units twice a day. The problem being is I can’t get a face to face with the nurse till 29th may and I’m going on holiday the beginning of June . So I don’t want to be on new meds when I’m abroad
My question is does anyone know of any meds or supplements I can get over the counter to bring my sugars down in the meantime other than stopping eating. Tia

I was on Metformin for agws and had the same problem seriously bad I was glad to cokme off itm even on 1 tablet a day,
Sorry I cant help any other way maybe ask your pharmacist
there is a slow release version of Metformin but that did little to help me

Yes I was put on the slow release a couple of years ago as the ordinary Metformin stated causing problems. I was put
500mg x 3 daily of slow release and was fine for two years till it started again. Loperamide had become my best friend. I’m only taking half of one tablet as that seems the most I can tolerate. I’m sure there must be some herbal route I could go down
