Metformin Long Term Effects

I initially was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in 2000 but over the years I was reclassified as a Type 1 1/2 and eventually a Type 1 which was done because blood tests found certain enzymes. I am on Metformin 1000 mg, one in the morning and one at night. I was wondering if any long time users of Metformin had any liver or kidney issues over the long period.
