Hi @Providence 62
Thanks for the kind words! It was (sort of ) comforting to visualise various members seated on the midnight throne sharing my discomfort!!
However - what a difference a day makes. I've already put it behind me and with the support of you lovely people, am prepared to shrug it off as one thing to endure. Onwards and upwards eh? x
Hi I'm new, I'm struggling too, just diagnosed but was on metformin for pcos- over Christmas I didn't take it aswell as I should of and was becoming ill until the end of February I eye sight started deteriorating which was scary my doc did my bm and it was 18.2, I've been good taking the metformin but my stomach gurgles so bad it's embarrassing! I've lost 25lbs since Christmas through diet but lately it's no wonder I'm stil losing weight with running to the loo multiple times a day, I start nurse training in September and I'm wondering how I will cope! Just to say I can really relate to your post
I was on metformin and then glucophage for a number of years and was told my bowel problems was IBS! Tried everything to get control of my bowels but towards the end I couldn't safely walk a mile to work without worrying whether I would make it without an accident!
With a big trip planned I went to the docs and said that there must be something to deal with the diahorrea and he took me off metformin - within 12 hours life was good again!
I haven't had success with other oral tablets, so am now on once a day insulin which is still not quite right yet, but getting there. The thing which seems to be making most difference is when I can eat low carbs, but even the slightest deviation and I am up to a reading of 10 again. But hey, it looks as though I am getting my blood sugar under control for the first time in 10 years!
Fingers crossed that Canaglifozin works for you. Good luck.
Personally I just gave up taking it. If you are being very good on low carbing you could well be able to take control of your sugars without it. I think it was the upset tums that convinced me that LCHF was the way to go and to remain medication free.
If you are testing regularly you could try reducing the dose or cutting it out altogether and monitor what happens for a few days. If your sugars spike then start taking it again. I'm no doctor but doubt a week off it would have a major detrimental effect and you could at least be more than 2 yards from a toilet for a day or two.

Interestingly Biker, your post made me think. I am just sticking to my canagliflorzin 100mg for now and low carbing like mad. I remember from my days on the Atkins Diet years ago that there is going to a be a bit of a spell of 'low carb flu'. But sugar is coming down and the aches and pains will pass very soon. Steak au Poivre tonight
Let us know how it goes.. and enjoy the steak au poivre (hopefully lots of double cream!)
I must be one of the lucky ones as I don't get any stomach problems at all. i take my metformin mid meals ( breakfast and dinner). The issue I have is that about an hour after I take my morning dose I feel a bit out of sorts, sometimes just very tired other times a bit light headed and the feeling of not being quite there (hope that makes sense). I have checked by blood sugars when I have these "turns" and they are fine..does anyone have any tips?
