I'm sure I read somewhere that if you are on metformin your blood sugar can't go too low? Is this right? Also, my blood sugar always tests between 6-7, but I never seem to go lower. Is this bad? Thanks

If you only take metformin for diabetes (ie don't take insulin or other diabetic meds) you will not have dangerously low blood sugars or hypos. Some people say that they have felt "hypo" on metformin, but this is generally just feeling much lower than your body has been used to and is not a medical emergency.
@Hobo1978 you say you are insulin dependent on your avatar, is this correct as it doesn't really fit with your question? Of course you can go too low on insulin, metformin won't prevent this.
Blood sugar tests of 6 to 7 are not bad, but if you could get a few 5's, or even a 4, it would be even better. Metformin is unlikely to do this for you, you need to restrict your sugar/carb intake to get there. (If you are on insulin, 6 to 7 may be advisable to avoid possible hypos.)

Depends on what you mean by too low, some people have reported going low enough to feel the need to eat or drink something and have been urged to visit a doctor to review their medication.

6-7 is not bad. Some people would be very pleased. It depends on what times you test, how that compares to HBA1C etc. Eg I mainly see 6 's because I mainly test my fasting and 2 hours after meals. When I do test premeal I see 4's which explains my HBA1C results

Thanks Sally. I don't know why It says I'm on insulin. I'm not and hope not to be for as long as possible! I barely eat carbs and haven't for 3 months and it still doesn't go lower than 6. I take 2 mets a day.

I had dawn phenomenon for a year fasting was always above 10, and now it's down to 6-7. I have lost 1st9 :)

Sounds like you are going in the right direction. For some people, it all happens very quickly, for others it takes longer.
Is there any possibility that you are accidentally having more carbs than you think, the little horrors hide in all sorts of places?
Sally

No I don't think so. I usually have something along the lines of bacon and eggs in the morning, tuna salad for lunch and homemade chicken curry for dinner. I am very very careful with carbs. I do like a beer but that is my downfall

Hi, I take 1g of Metformin a day and follow a LCMF eating pattern. However, if I eat too little food in total or skip meals I do become hypoglycaemic.

The low carb high fat thing always worked well but high cholesterol stopped me from being too full on with that route

I end up making and eating a lot of slimming world recipes with the mrs but without the rice and pasta and potatoes they suggest. Kinda works for me. If I had a curry from a takeaway, my blood shoots to 15. If I mate it myself, it doesn't change :)
