I was put on Metformin a few years ago and I have really experienced horrible Gastro issues. I also have Thyroid disease and it could contribute but I still wondered if anyone has experience with Metformin and Metformin ER? My Endo decided to make the switch and I'm wondering what the difference is and whens the best time to take Metformin ER? How much are you on and how many times a day. I'm in the US so it may be different dosage. Thanks
PS. Also, When you were put on it, what was your FBS, A1C, and after meals? Thanks

Hello to all,,,,,sorry to be so thick,,,,please explain about the morning liver dump we T2's have??? This is not something I have not heard about,,in conjunction with the condition. I have been on the standard metformin since being diagnosed,,, and not tried the ER (extended release),,,ttfn from Karen.

Scouser58 pleased I'm not the only one that never knew about the liver dump my Dad was type one his brother & sister were type 2 as was my brother & mum is also type 2 so diabetes has been in my family going back to the 1945 & I have neve4 heard that about the glycemic readings going up because the liver dumps any thing in to our system very strange that never in all that time not once some one come & help explain in plain English

Hi, as I understand it your liver releases glucose into your blood in the early hours to get you ready for the coming day. Some people seem to get it as they wake up whilst others get it in their sleep and so are already high when they wake up. If you get it on waking you can sometimes stop it by having a small amount of food, e.g. handful of nuts etc. It`s a perfectly natural response and, as you deplete your glucose stores it should lessen. Hope this helps, Chris :)

Hello chris5,,,,thank you for the explanation,,and this gives me so information as to why my readings are higher some mornings than others,,,,I just thought it was my late nights,,and sleeping at different times of the day,,,,go to bed at 6am and get up between 10 and 12,,,,so I will have to watch what I eat at night,,and go to bed earlier,,and have more sleep,,,,if that is possible when the dog comes into my room and jumps up onto my bed,,,then nudges me to move over as he wants to get in my bed,,,and have a sleep with me,,,,then the cats come wanting their breakfast,,,no wonder my readings are very varied,,,,,,ttfn from Karen.
