Metformin, side effects and other meds

I have been reading about Metformin (due to start it this week), and its particular side effect of causing the trots. Initially i thought Yippee, weight loss, but having put my 'thinking head on' as would say Judge Judy, suddenly realised it could have dire consequences for my other meds.

I take:

Venlafaxine
Tegratol
Quetiapine
Co-codamol
Ibruprofen
Ramilpril
Omeprazole
Simvastatin
Thyroxine
Ceterizine
Riboroxifan

Some of them have a really quick withdrawal (Venlafaxine has you walking walls if you miss it for 12 hrs), so regular trots becomes problematical. Is there another drug that i should propose to the doctor that is less likely to cause side effects?

The SR version seems to suit a lot of people better.

Ask your pharmacist if he can do a medication review to see if there are any contraindications between your meds and also ask for the best time to take the metformin, bearing in mind the other medications and possible side effects.
