Hi I was diagnosed in July 17 with diabetes and my hb1ac was 155 and my blood testing on the day at dr was 26.9. I had no idea what any of this meant.

The dr put me on two metformin on first 2 weeks and then increased to 3 and ask me to test my sugar levels once a day.

Since taking the tablets I had loose stools and this eased off. I have recently been getting tension headaches on and off, flatulence. Stomach cramps. I’m thinking to myself is this the tablets or what I may be eating.

Anyone experienced this?

I am trying to get an appt with dr

My last blood test in Feb my hb1ac is now 42 which is great news.

Hi Candy,

My doc has just (yesterday) taken me off Met because of the issues I was having, although mine were different to yours. I had extreme constipation as a result of being allergic to the medication, it also left me feeling disconnected and gave me a severe rash.

It's worth discussing it with your doc, good luck.

Hi

Thank you that’s so reassuring. I’m definitely going to go the dr. Are you still taking meds?

Hi @38candy the side effects you are getting seem to be quite common with metafornin. Some posters say they settle down after 2-3 weeks. If you are still getting them you should ask your doctor to put you on the slow release version (Metafornin SR) which is supposed to avoid those symptoms.

I'm now on Gliclazide for a few weeks to see if I can tolerate it. Generally now I'm diet controlled using the low carb high fat (LCHF) routine.
