Hi
I have been having trouble with the standard metformin (violent diarrhoea) on 2000 mg per day (1000am and 1000pm) because of this my doctor has started me on Metformin slow release at a rate of 1000mg in the evening.
Is this halving of the dose usual ?

I suspect he may be taking it more carefully as you had problems before. If you are OK with this you can always ask him to double the daily dose.

As Daibell says, probably taking is slowly, just in case. There has been some research done in the UK which shows that 10% of patients unable to tolerate Metformin IR (Instant Release) couldn't tolerate Metformin SR (Sustained Release) either. So the good news is that 90% could.
