Hi.
I was newly diagnosed with Type diabetes at the end of January.
Initially I was prescribed Metformin mg x 500mg/day. But because of some continuous stomach upsets etc, I was then transferred to the SR version.
In March this year I had surgery to have my gallbladder removed. My wounds etc have now healed. But I am still having problems with an upset stomach most days. If I have felt really bad with my stomach, I will not take my SR metformin & the following day I usually feel quite a bit better.
Has anyone else had problems with their stomach & if so what has been the next type of medication that they have been placed on.
I am also trying to restrict my carbs & portion sizes. Some days my appetite is diminished & although I have lost some weight, I have not lost a huge amount.
Please can anyone advise me the best way forward.
Thank you in advance.

Since I could not tolerate Metformin for other reasons (everything tasted like burnt plastic) my nurse discontinued them. My DN said, "We are not here to make you ill". So if taking the tablets is worse than not taking the tablets then tell your DN.

In addition to the above, Metformin made no difference to my blood sugar levels either and the promised benefits down the line can go hang.

Thanks very much for your reply Squire.
I have been thinking along similar lines. I am due to speak to my DN tomorrow & so will ask if I can try something else & see how I am with that.

Thanks again.
