Metformin TR issues

Do you generally avoid carbs altogether, or just cut back where possible? Just wondering how extreme I need to be and whether days off is allowed i.e. when eating out etc?
It is hard to judge as I have always needed to eat fewer carbs since I was in my early 20s after a second prolonged session of different antibiotics changed what I could eat I do not eat sugary or high starch foods and set a limit of 10 percent carbs - the exception being chocolate which I eat in small amounts and go weeks without buying any.
I started off at 50 gm of carbs a day soon after diagnosis- I had several zero carbs days to start the process. I have now cut back even more to see if I can lose more fat whilst maintaining my weight by doing some exercise with a resistance spring thing. It seems to be working as grandchildren and musical instruments are seeming to be lighter.
I checked my blood glucose levels to determine the carb count was correct - I wanted, and obtained normal readings.
