Hey everyone. I went to see my Diabetes consultant yesterday and he is going to be putting me on Metformin, along with my insulin. He said that Metformin helps the absorption of insulin and also helps with weight loss. I am just wondering if anyone else on here is taking insulin and Metformin?

I think you will find Metformin does neither of those things really. I'd like to see the evidence that Metformin helps insulin absorption unless you have insulin resistance i.e. are overweight. Metformin can depress the appetite a bit but not a lot really. I take Metformin with my insulin partly to keep my DN happy (!). Research data shows it improves blood sugar just a little and apparently has other protective effects. I think many are prescribed both. A low-carb diet as always help control weight and avoid insulin resistance.
