I’m type 1 and have been prescribed this because I’m very resistant to insulin and my blood sugars were 26 in the morning. I have been given 500mg twice a day along with my insulin and they have reduced from 20-27 to 15-18 units which is a good improvement but it’s still high. Would it be possible for my diabetic consultant to up the dose to 1000mg twice a day? Metformin is working for me but I sleep a lot during the day and sleeping rises my blood sugar so even during the day it can be high
My Bangkok based endocrinologist was happy to prescribe Metformin to me off label as a Type 1 as he likes its anti inflammatory impact, possible anti cancer effects. If you don't get stomach side effects I believe 2000mg per day is an effective dose range. How do you find tolerating it?

Yes, the consultant could up your dose. Do you have some excess weight? This is sometimes the reason Metformin is added when on insulin but not always. If you do have excess weight then a low carb diet will help reduce the need for too much or even any insulin.
