Hi, I'd be interested in hearing form other type 1's out there who have been on metformin for insulin resistance issues. I have been on it for years owing to a resistance issue, and have noticed that if I forget to take it ( 2 x 500mg twice daily ) the effect on my blood glucose is extremely dramatic. Of late I have had occasions where despite taking everything as normal, I have not eaten anything from getting up in the morning until the evening because the blood glucose level stubbornly refused to drop regardless of injections to correct. Last time it did this it remained in the high teens most of the day. Not helped by very variable reaction to insulin on a daily basis, with some sites being distinctly poor, and no, the sites are not outwardly bad or over used. Trouble is, if the metformin is loosing effectiveness I believe I am on the max dose already and there appears no alternative. I already have stage 3 CKD too. Diabetic 35 years, always type 1, went diabetic in my thirties.
