I have been put on Metformin 3 times daily. I am finding it dificult to remember to take it during the day. But when I do take it it causes me to feel terribly uwell.

It causes a horrible fluttering inside my belly area, my brain and concentration deminishes until it wears off, but the only way i know how to cope with it is to shut myself down with sleep, going to bed so that I dont feel it whilst asleep. But sometimes (depending how long ive slept) it returns. I feel completely listless and louzy and unfunctionable when i take this second tablet and then end up not taking any because its so horrible a feeling inside me.

What can you suggest it is?????
 
It's quite common to get such side effects with Metformin.

Tell your GP or Diabetes Nurse and ask to go on to the Slow Release version.
 
Metformin can cause stomach upsets, wind and the need to be by the loo for a few weeks, though I still have the wind 13 years later. There is a slow release version of metformin and might well be worth asking your doctor to see if you can switch over to that as its more gentle on you and its side effects.
 
Hi. Always take Metformin with food as I suspect you do. I would suggest you ask your GP to change you over to Metformin SR (Slow Release) which is much kinder and you only have to take once or twice a day depending on dose (and the GP's personal view). Metformin plain is best built-up over a period of weeks to let the body get used to it.
 
my name is tina i was on metaformin i got put on 50mg a day got taken off them because my heart rate went too fast then i got put on siptaglistine i have a real dilema though since being on the siptaglisine my sugar is high but if i have a peice of chocolate it drops for example friday it was 20.9 1 hour later it was 5.9 i dont understand please advise me
 
It is most unlikely that chocolate will ever lower your blood sugar so you need to be more objective about your readings - what other factors could be at play? Are your hands clean? Is your meter calibrated? Are your test strips in date etc


Diagnosed type II 1998 2 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin
 
Hi everyone,

I was pre diabetic on control diet but from beginning of this year my levels rose to 9.5% and staying on this level. My GP prescribe me Metformin once a day 500mg , 2 months ago. I know that is help me to manage my sugar levels but is that necessary ?
