How long does metformin work for. Is it just for the meal you are taking it with or does it stay in the body for longer?

It works for longer but unsure of howling

My understanding is that it takes a few weeks to build up to its maximum effect - so I'd assume the same holds true for not taking it?
I read that a metformin tablet has a half-life of 3 hours and the rest will go over 24 hours. By continuously taking the pills regularly you build up a therapeutic level over time, as Indy says.
