ive been on metformin for a week I take it twice a day plus insulin ,my tounge is very red and I always have an upset stomach does anyone else get this and does it wear off in time thanks
 
Hi susie,

There are people here who take Metformi/n and have no side effects Some move onto the SR Metformin and the side effects subside whereas there are others that cannot tolerate Metformin.
 
Wot she said ^^^^ and I would add that you should ask to be on the SR version anyway, so if you are not then see your doctor.
 
I couldn't tolerate metformin due to upset tummy, after a week I asked for slow release but got put on forxiga by nuts practitioner.......and never looked back!! No side effects for me and combined with lchf I'm feeling good!!

It seems the best way to start on Metformin is to increase the dose slowly then the stomach has more chance to adjust to it. My husband was told by his doctor to start on 1 tablet for 2 weeks then increase the dose every two weeks until he was on 2 tablets twice a day He did not have any problems but he was put on the SR ones straight away
 
thanks I was only told about a week ago I have been on the hdu I was very ill my sugar was sky high I was vomiting and drinking like crazy .I have been sick again aswell. I will ask my nurse tomorrow about the sr version thanks again
 
Didn't notice any problems with my tongue, but I had an upset stomach for about 3 - 4 weeks, then it settled down. I get occasional nausea but it seems to settle down after a day or two
