Hi

Just a quick one, did anyone else experience vomiting when starting Metformen, i started one tab a day on tuesday & from thurs night onwards ive been sick every couple of hours, only thing ive eaten is a slice of toast for breakfast so i can have my tablet, ive drunk loads of water & all im bringing back is water & phleme, rang the chemist this morning & was adviced not to take anymore & contact my GP first thing monday morning, has anyone else had problems
 
I'm a type one, and been on insulin for ages (far longer than I care to remember!) I was diagnoised as being insulin resistant and they started me on metformine to reduce the amount I needed to inject for about a week I felt sick, and vomited at least twice a day. But it did pass for me. However you need to decide whats best for you. Best of luck
 
Sorry to hear this; the reaction is normally at the other end .

One of the few side-effects of metformin is to upset your stomach so it's possible that this is the problem, however could it be that you have a stomach bug of some kind? I have had a couple of such attacks over the past few months (I'm T2, and on 2X 500 mgs of Metformin per day) and the general consensus was that I struck it lucky with the Norovirus lottery - and Diabetes renders you more susceptible to infections, I am led to believe.

Best to follow your pharmacist's advice, anyway. Hope you're better soon.
 
I found that the brand glucophage slow release gave me waves of feeling like i might throw up. i changed brands and was fine. Maybe if you ask the doctor for a different brand and possibly slow release as this does tend to help with gastrointestinal issues.

Yes I agree with Lenny , ask for slow release , and see how it goes , hope the feeling of being sick goes away soon ...
If not ask,for a different drug ....you do need to eat ...or as others have suggested it could be another problem ....

I also had problems,felt sick but never was sick,had bowel problems as well.i did reserch other meds but decided to stick to MetforminSR,I only take 1x500mg per day,Im ok now but it took a while.

Different generic brands can effect you more than others. I changed chemist to get ones that suit me. I also found that I can't eat wheat and take metformin.
 
I had terrible side effects with Metformin, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pains. One thing that helped with the nausea was to have a snack every 2-3 hours, it really worked

Same here (re wheat). I've since read that Metformin can make you intolerant of foodstuffs such as wheat etc
 
If you have bowel problems with Metformin it is important to change to the SR (Slow Release) version which is much kinder. Do ask the GP to change if you aren't already on SR (aka MR)
 
I started Metaformin 3 weeks ago, started 1 x 500mg, 2nd week moved to 2 x 500mg and now on 3 x 500mg (all taken after meals). Not had an issue here but medications can affect some users differently. Hope you get sorted soon.
 
Metaformin makes me constipated. I have to take senakot every few days. I also found out it acts the same as a certain blue pill.
 
I was originally put on metformin 500 mg when diagnosed in june, I had the most terrible upset tummy and after a week felt so drained and like I had been hit by a bus! Asked to be swapped to slow release but nurse practitioner put me on forxiga instead and I have flown ever since!! It's been amazing- fairly new drug so my practice were very interested in how I did with it!
 
i started on 3x500mg per day, now 4x500mg per day, and exerienced no problems at all .
