Miaomiao, Tomato, and the Apple Watch

Very quick question: I’ve been looking everywhere for this without success!

Once you have everything set up on the iPhone and Apple Watch, will the Tomato app on the watch read your BG independently of the phone? Can I head off for a run and leave the phone at home and still keep an eye on what my BG is doing? Or is the watch just an extra screen for the phone?

I currently have a Garmin which is great for running and much more suitable for my purposes than an Apple Watch, I was thinking about getting a cheap old AW just for BG monitoring alongside the Garmin.

Hi,

From what I know, the Apple Watch connects to the phone.. Primarily it's function is a Bluetooth wearable?

Now I do wear a standalone designated watch (Watlaa one.) for monitoring my BGs via the Miaomiao. But I use Xdrip in the firmware with the same app on my Android phone. When in range the data will transfer to the phone..

Whether the Watlaa would/could work with an iPhone? I'm not sure.

Thanks Jaylee - that looks much closer to what I was looking for at least in terms of function, and it’s certainly a lot cheaper than an Apple Watch. I don’t want to replace my Garmin which otherwise is perfect for me and the Apple Watch has a huge number of shortcomings for me.

The Watlaa is just a simple timepiece & CGM, you can calibrate it to your meter.. Clear readout & seems less chunkier on the wrist than most?
I sometimes switch the Bluetooth hook up between the watch & the phone. I'm not realy a watch wearing guy at work.
Have a habit of breaking them.. So I normally leave the watch at home & take the Miaomiao tethered to the phone on a "school day."
I suppose it would be possible to swich twix the Xdrip on the watch firmware. Then use Tomato on your iPhone to catch up the data & continue.? The MM seems to remember the last 8 hours?

Hope this helps.

Well, I’ve taken the plunge and ordered a Watlaa. I can’t justify an Apple Watch when I’ve got a Garmin which does everything that I want better than an AW (gps accuracy, battery life, sports use); the Watlaa looks like it would be the perfect addition to keep an eye on my BG on a long run when I forget to scan with my Libre reader until it’s too late! I have to scan regularly with my Libre reader anyway to communicate readings back to the clinic (a condition of NHS funding) so I don’t tend to use the data storage facilities of the various CGM apps I’ve used anyway. Yes, you can get various apps and data fields to see your BG on the Garmin but lately these seem to have stopped working and I hate carting an iPhone around with me (I have a very small non-smart phone for emergencies anyway)
