Microalbumin

Hi I hope this is in the right place.

I was diagnosed in November, Type 1. Since then I've worked hard to get good control, as I hope to be able to start a family soon.

At my first three mOnth check, my microalbumin was high. I had another test and had a letter to say that the second screening is positive.

My hba1c at diagnosis was nearly 12% and at last check it was 7.3% so I'm getting there.

I just wondered what elevated microalbumin means, what has caused it and how I can sort it out.

I have bg under control. I test all the time and in the last six weeks I've never had a reading above 10, with my average 2 hour post meal being around 6.5.

Has anyone else had this? Can you enlighten me as letter from doctor is very vague!

Thanks in advance

Hi Holls
as i understand it microalbumin is a test used to check for kidney damage and see if there are proteins in the urine the kidney acts like a seive and allows small particles through but protein is too large to go through and if any above a certain level can show an amount of damage that unfortunately diabetes and or high blood pressure can cause high blood pressure can force the proteins through damaging some of the seive like tissue,
i would think your gp would do more investigation ie blood test and possibly give you ramipril which can help reduce blood pressure and can help slow down any damage..
try this link:

hope this helps somewhat :)
btw i was diagnosed with the same problem and am now on ramipril my damage is not bad got results today: :D
