when i got told i had diabetes at the age of 11, i got my dad to buy me a new bag for £80.00 and a purse for £10.00. So things arent that bad. Next i am planning to ask for a new wardrobe.

What did you get of your family :?:

The bag is radly and my dad got it me. what are the consequence then if they are so bad.
It a great bag anyway i like it and so does my mom and dad.

Milly did you want the bag because of the dog? You can buy the dog on its own as well.

All the best to you Millie

5 brothers ,oh poor you! Radley, that's the one with the little dog on it,My son's girlfriend likes them ,I bought her a purse for Christmas.
Just be yourself MIllie, the same person you were before you got diabetes, because you are the same person.Once you get the hang of looking after yourself you can continue to be just Millie not 'I'm Milly I'm a diabetic '.Yes you're life will change but you will always be you.

My daughter has medi alert braclet and a tigger handbag. she was so excited because her friends couldn't wear jewelry to school and she could. Now she has a mobile so she can text bg results. I get impression she didn't care what condition she had as long as it came with fashion accessories. If only I had taken it so well.

Although she always feels hypo when its her turn to empty dishwasher to time to do homework.

What a great Dad mine sent me a bunch of fake flowers and didn't even visit me when I had to stay in hospital - not totally appropriate when your diagnosed with a life changing condition at 7yrs old. Always remember to appreciate the people who support you!

You are still Millie and what you grow into is to a large extent up to you. Yes there will be a few things you cannot do, but not many. You have choices. Is the diabetes going to rule you or are you going to control it? Incidentally do keep tight control. Keep those numbers down.Don't snack unless you need to. I have met young diabetics who were eating crackers with blood sugars in double figures, because their hospital told them to eat a cracker in the mid-afternoon. That doesn't make sense.
At your age, you still have puberty to contend with. It may make things go a little haywire sometimes, so check BG often. From your message, you say you are in year 6 and I would say obviously very bright. Learn to do the control yourself and don't rely on your obviously doting parents.
In some ways ( I can say as a mother and grandmother) they will be hurting more than you and would happily take the diabetes on themselves and away from you if they could.
It isn't fair, but you will learn as you grow that life isn't fair.
Grow into a great woman Millie
