Type of diabetes
Type 2
After 2 months of dealing with type 2, my doctor told me today my GAD blood test results are positive for type 1. I have to urgently go to hospital tomorrow, stop the Metformin & Gliclazide & go straight onto insulin. I don't know what to expect. Anyone type 1 & can tell me what happens next. Feeling stressed

Are they planning for you to stay in?

As its a weekend I don't know who you would get to see. Have they given you any idea who you will be seeing?

Its scarey. I was told one morning that I needed to go in the next day. I got drunk that night thinking my world was ending!!

However I got taken in on a Tuesday and within 30 minutes had done my first injection. (Stupidly expected my leg to be numbed before doing it!!)...

I stayed in but they don't do this much anymore. I was discharged on the Friday and went back to work on the Monday.

Have you been told you are just seeing someone or that you will be staying in?

Think this has been posted twice..

I was diagnosed on a Friday morning and my GP arranged a hospital appt for the afternoon as an out-patient.

The DN was delightful and very helpful. I came away with a shed load of info along with lancets, needles, insulin, a meter and test strips. Somewhat overwhelmed, I did my first injection the next morning (trying to remember the demo the DN gave me) and within days it became easier.

It was a huge shock, but slowly I became accustomed to my new way of life. As an 'oldie' I don't take to changes very easily and this one took some time, but I've got there.

There's a lot to learn, so take one step at a time and you'll soon become an 'old hand' at managing this condition.

This forum is a mine of info. We've all been in your position at some point, so ask any questions you like. There's no such thing as a daft question, just daft people who don't ask questions.
