Some members here have asked the Monitor’s for a comment to be made about another member’s rather misleading post elsewhere, not on this forum we hasten to add, regarding missing posts and the reasons. It is the policy here to ignore such external posts but feel we need to clarify the circumstances. It is preferable that members contact us here via the forum monitors to avoid such false inferences being made.
Moderator's here have been culling posts from the forum areas which go back, in some cases to 2007/08. Now it has come to our attention that certain members and ex-members (banned) seem to think that this is aimed at Low Carbing and Low Carber's. A rather paranoid view, totally unjustified, however we will explain for the benefit of all our members and Guests who obviously read posts here.
One of the reasons for the cull is that much of the information is outdated and of no relevance to today anymore. Links that no longer work, duplication of newer, more informative posts, out of date technical information etc. Removal of banned members from the forum listings. The list goes on and on. If it is considered still useful then it has been retained. There was also much that was totally irrelevant to Diabetes and in fact in some cases was rude, disrespectful and even obscene. Many other irrelevant posts not worthy of this great forum. Those posts were from a time when this Forum was in its infancy and things which shouldn't have stood were allowed. That is no longer the case here. That is being redressed.
This Forum is probably the greatest resource for all Diabetic's in the UK and beyond. No one ethos takes precedence here. It is not a Low Carb Forum, nor a chat line, neither does it advise people that there is only one way to control diabetes. There are plenty of forums which specialise out there on the net, if that is what people are looking for. This forum just helps everyone no matter what type, lifestyle, etc along the way with sound practical advice and answers queries as and when they occur. We give people a helping hand and see them flourish, whatever route they wish to follow.
Members are able to post about most things, within reason and differences of opinion are allowed, again within reason. That is the policy here. A policy agreed to by all members when they join.
What is NOT allowed is shown in this Forum's Rules. Break them persistently or even sometimes just once, (if appropriate) and action will be taken. Post sensibly and there will be no problems. Opinions are just that, someone’s opinion. Something to read and digest, comment on maybe, but never take offence at them just because they aren’t your opinions. Challenge them if you will, but in a positive way.
Any decisions taken by Moderators are final. Monitor's will sometimes discuss and explain things but again their decisions are final. Any appeal of those decisions should be made to the forum Administrator via a pm or e-mail. It will be investigated and a decision made.
As with any well run Forum on the net it is prudent 'housekeeping' to clean out things at times, clean up threads which have been derailed over time. It makes the Topics that are left easier to read and digest, which has to be a good thing. It has taken place on this forum for some time now as we strive to make things better for ALL our members
We do not have the facility to archive so many posts or topics so they have to be deleted. This will continue and members may well see some of their posts disappear over time. Both Forum Monitor's post counts have dropped as they are prolific posters because they answer many questions and offer assistance to many newly diagnosed members. Neither of them are complaining, They are just getting on with it and keeping on posting, building their post count back up again, not that they are counting. It is not a competition.
As far as this Forum is concerned we have no 'policy' to remove things relating to Low Carbing or Low Carber's, or anything else for that matter. We have a Low Carb area designated for such things, in the same way there is a designated non-Low Carb area. Those came about because of the behaviour of certain members and also ex -members which caused many problems here. That sort of behaviour is no longer tolerated here.
One of the Monitor's is a Low Carber and works well with the other who is technically not a Low Carber although he probably eats less carbs than some of the Low Carber's who post here and elsewhere. The thought that there is some sort of agenda is quite frankly ridiculous. There is no commercial interest in promoting any agenda. As can be seen from the advice that is frequently given to new members by the Monitors.
This forum is run totally separately from the community pages, which is, as everybody should know by now, a business. That business funds this forum, very often members disagree with what is advertised or mentioned on that area. There is no interference from the owner’s etc as to how this forum operates. The one's that believe that there is interference or some sort of personal agenda here are mistaken.
So, read things on this forum and benefit from the good advice you will get from all our members. We aim to make it up to date, factual, technical (at times), clear and concise. That is what a good forum does. That is our aim, our only agenda.
