Hi everyone,

You know what, I've just had one of those days! Actually, a couple of them! My sugars have been inexplicably high for the past 2 and a half days. It's not been off the scale, enough to think these was anything wrong with the pod or my general management, just higher than normal, as sugars were still coming down and not just climbing. Today I ended up feeling really fed up! Went to bed at 7.6 woke in the night feeling **** sugars 11, correction dose given. I wasn't due a pod change till the morning, but after waking up at 9 and feeling ****** all day, 6 before lunch after putting on a +30% temporary basal 4 hours after lunch 13.2, argh!!!! 11.2 before tea!! Then 3hrs later 14.9!!!! Everything got too much, I was putting away clothes, then had to empty dishwasher and actually felt like crying!! In a frustrated temper I changed my pod! I found the pod had been leaking, only underneath the pod and nowhere I could feel. Not a lot and obviously not the whole time, but enough to play havoc with my sugars! sugars now down to 11!

I was feeling really miserable! I've just looked back at my records on the pod. My Average has been under 8.6 for 60 days and the last week even with my really ****** couple of days has been 8.1 mmol and u know what I'm happy with that, I've come so far in everything I've learnt since being on the pod and am gaining confidence all the time. In the days running up to this weekend my averages were between 7.2 and 5.8.
Sometimes u get lost when you're feeling down and it all feels too much, but I took a moment to see how things have been going, expecting it to be rubbish, and I got a pleasant surprise! I have also learnt to trust my instincts and if I think it is my pod to change it sooner!

And sometimes u need to think, yes there probably is room for improvement, but for positives are outweighing the negatives!! Well done me!! I live with the the big D, but it doesn't rule me!!

I just thought I would share to remind u guys to do this too when u feel like you have had a rubbish couple of days!

Don't hesitate to change a Pod Sarah if you think it's faulty, that was the first thing my pump nurse said to me.

Sometimes if a pod is leaking insulin you can run your finger along the adhesive at the cannula end and smell it, this is what I do if my bg levels go high for no apparent reason, but as you say you've a lot more to feel positive about so well done.

I know @noblehead, I couldn't smell any leakage and my sugars weren't high enough for alarm bells to ring! If they have I've changed it straight away when I've had continuously rising sugars, this time it just wasn't enough and I couldn't put my finger on it! Every time the pod has leaked it has been underneath and I have been unable to feel/smell it! But next time I will defo change it sooner! I'm still learning all the time.

@Sarahkylie88, I find if bg levels don't respond to correction doses then it's time to change the pod, I've had one or two leak underneath and often it's accompanied by a blood stain.

Probably said this to you before, but you'll likely find most of the issues with the pods are in the early days of pumping, that was certainly the case with myself anyway.
