Hi folks, I was diagnosed as T2 33 years ago when I weighed less than 8 stone. I was diet controlled until my second pregnancy 7 years later but reverted to diet control immediately after delivery. I was put on to Metformin in 2005 but quickly changed to Gliclazide, as I didn't tolerate the Metformin. In April I moved house and registered with a new medical practice. On Saturday I received a new diabetic diagnosis of MODY. I have never thought I fitted the T2 pattern and have often questioned this. I have also always thought that my blood sugar just naturally sits a bit higher than non-diabetic. I was rather pleased to be proved right at last.
My new diagnosis doesn't change anything though I have had to advise both of my daughters and my two nieces to ask for an HbA1c in case they have any children who go on to develop diabetes. Knowing the history ensures the correct treatment (hopefully).
Has anyone else found themselves in a similar situation?
