Hi all, Just got back from the nurse (boy and was she a 'miz-og'), and have been given a Vita Onetouch monitor, quite simple to use, but I asked for more strips and was told I only need to test twice a week?, I did ask about how do I know what certain foods are doing what to my system , only reply I got was keep a food diary, yes well I already do that, but if I test on a Mon, then on Fri, how do I know which if any food has contributed to my reading?, and my god? these strips certainly are not cheap are they?, I did test at 9.8 this morning, she said that was high, and I had only had a cup of tea, an hour before, I keep surfing this site , and have to admit it has been more helpful than the nurse, I spose its just going to be a case of trial and error until I reach a happy medium, I still need to learn more about , the release of carbs and how they work, .....trand

You are 100% right. You need to test to understand your body and get your blood glucose down to healthy levels. At the moment, because you are new to it all, it's especially important.
My rule of thumb for testing is: test if the test result helps your understanding of your disease(even if doctors say not to) and don't test if it doesn't (even if doctors say you should).
It sounds to me as if you already have a better attitude towards, and understanding of, diabetes than your nurse... :?
