Hi all, I am new to the forum, but have had type 1 diabetes for over 20 years. i currently use the accu check compact plus because i found i was more likely to do a blood test if it was easier to do and with the strips popping out automatically i tend to do about 4 a day now. what i am after is a meter that will download info directly ( either wired or preferably wireless ) to a computer or phone, so i can track my blood results. one with the ability to insert other relevant data would also be a plus, and any with software avaiable on an iphone would be even better. anyone have any recommendations. many thanks

I can't help with smart phone apps, but I used a Medisense Optium Exceed until recently & now use a Bayer Contour Link (I only changed as the Bayer meter talks to my pump) both had USB cables to connect to a pc, though you have to send off for both. Both are small & easy to use. The Bayer meter uses a tiny sample. Both take 5 seconds to give a result. Bayer do an identical meter just called Contour for those who don't need the link to a pump.
I'd recommend either. The sample size is the advantage for the Bayer meter, the foil wrapped strips the advantage of the Medisense meter (the Bayer meter strips are loose in a tub, so you can't easily put a couple in your pocket with the meter & pricker the way you can with the Optium meter).
Hope this is of some use.

Hi

Not sure if this would be what you are looking for but google iBGStar. It's a plug in bg monitor for the iPhone.

If anyone is interested i have been dabbling with Excel spreadsheets and have designed an Excel logbook for logging your BG's Carbs etc, i have also added a dosage calculator, where you can input your BG, Carbs, ratios, compensating factors etc and automatically copy and paste the results into the main sheet, it also calculates averages and charts the results. Please feel free to download one (i'm not charging), let me know what you think. My website is http://www.gibsonweb.co.uk

Have just uploaded the sheets again, had to twaeak one of the settings, please download again. :)

Hi, I used to use an ultrasmart one touch ultra, which had software and connecting cable, the system was good for doing the recording side of things and I would just print off 3 months worth of results for consultant, it gives you all the various reports you need over a wide range of periods.....recently though I was given an insulinx meter from abbot by my DLN, and that is a whole different class of machine, as it uses 'pump technology' to work out insulin doses...it really is the 'dogs dooberrys', if you contact Abbot, they may send you a freestyle meter with the connector for the pcthen just take the slip from the box to your G.P to get sticks added to your repeat prescription..
