Hey Guys,

Just want to ask a really important question:

My partner uses an Optium freestyle monitor which has been given to him by the diabetes nurse at the hospital. His levels have not been corresponding with the amount of insulin that he has been having . So to experiement we took two monitors that are exactley the same and took readings within 5 seconds of each other with the same blood. One read 8.6 and the other read 10.1 :eh: .

This is extremely worrying as he took levels last night that read low and he did not have any symptoms whatsoever of going low ?????
So how the hell do we know which monitor is correct ? as this could lead to false readings and me giving him glucogel etc when he realy doesnt need it  or even worse he ends up in the hospital .
Any one else had these problems or heard of it and had any answers ??
Thanks from a very concerned Jen

Manufacturers also make test solution to test the accuracy of your meter.
As an insulin-dependant diabetic you can probably get it on prescription (this is a type 2 guessing here.)

if you go on the website for the freestyle optium, and register you monitor you can get the control solution free, plus free batteries and also a lead to upload your results onto your computer, hope this helps
