Anyone else heard of this? The doca are puzzled as to how come I m doing well (last hba1c was in the non diabetic range)coming up to 20 years post diagnosis with T2 and treated throughout with a consistent & fairly low dose of sulfonureas which goes against the expected trajectory, that combined with the fact I was pretty young at diagnosis is something the consultant I saw this time round thought might indicate monogenic diabetes ( which he explained as meaning a single gene defect)

Exeter diabetes centre does the testing for monogenic diabetes. Professor Hattersley is the man you need :)

If you haven't already found this by googling

Thanks
All very interesting - not sure it makes any difference in terms of treatment if I am or not monogenic but it would certainly make more sense than a T2 diagnosis - I was repeatedly tested for diabetes from the age of 6or7 yrs old (only urine tests tho) then ultimately diag as T2 in my mid 30s with the statement that I must have been diabetic for at least 20 years prior to diagnosis ( ie since 15 or so)

As you say your treatment probably would be no different . Quite often though people who have MODY and have been diagnosed young are misdiagnosed as T1 . They can often come off insulin which can change their lives immensely.

If you have children or siblings then you might want to consider asking to be tested for it a

This page on the above site tells you something about the genetics of MODY
