While I was waiting for my eye screening I saw this pic on a screen in the waiting area

Might be hard to read.. the main title says

"What's the evidence behind a low carb diet? Is it right for everyone - how do people know what's right for them?
First box then says:
" Diabetes UK say... Very little good published research into low-carb diets for people with Type 1 diabetes. At the moment not able to recommend for Type 1s"
Box beneath says
"Diabetes UK says.. There is no one size fits all approach for diet and diabetes"
Large box on right says
"Different views... Some people with Type 1 diabetes say that they have benfittted from following a low-carb diet. Some clinical audits and expert opinions to suggest that a low-carb diet my be n option for people with Type 1 diabetes. But that's not enough evidence to base our recommendations on.
Then in the smallest box with the smallest print size at the bottom we get
"The best evidence in favour of low carb is for weight management in Type 2 or without diabetes"

Damnation by faint praise anyone?

Maybe it is about time that Diabetes UK started to fund "good research into low carb for Type1", including a study on how well the new XPertHealth insulin training works.

I would much prefer it if instead of researching an unnecessary diet for type 1 diabetics they funded " good research into a more stable control/ management criteria for young type 1's "

I beg to differ with the last box's statement that low carb is for weight management. I did not do it for that reason as I had no obvious problem in that area. That has really irritated me! I did/do it for bg management just the same way as those who have acheived a weight they are happy with i.e maintenance of good bg management.

Splutter splutter chunter spit!

The research is necessary as lots of people with Type1 cannot get good BG control keeping to the current NHS advice. I also personly believe that some sort of "low carb" is the best option for children with Type1. (Note I did not say very low carb or keto.)

However, unlike Type2, clearly, lots (maybe most) people with Type1 can get good control without "low carb".
