Hi,

I was wondering if you could take a look at the fasting tests I have done for the morning and give me your thoughts. I'm not sure if it is only the DP that needs addressing or the basal amount too. The results of the first test confirmed what is happening to me everyday. I work from home awakening everyday between 6 and 7:30 and my levels are impossible to keep down. Usually have a low GI cereal of about 30g carbs. Work is sat at a desk. I have my breakfast about 1-2hrs after waking. The second test wasn't a true test as I tried to steer off the DP rise with some humalog.

My night time levels are fairly steady now after some fasting testing and subsequent reduction in my evening basal. Waking levels are usually between 4 and 8 which I'm happy with.

T1. Current regime: Levemir split - 10 units at 9:30am, 8 units at 21:30. Humalog 15 mins before each meal. Afternoon and evening ration 1:10, breakfast- still not sure.

Test 1:
BG 4.5 mmol/L Out Of Bed 02/16/2015 07:39:10
BG 7.4 mmol/L 02/16/2015 08:44:35

BG 8.1 mmol/L Before Lunch 02/16/2015 12:08:46

I've read many threads on the DP and the first things I am doing is changing the levemir doses to 10pm & 8am so they overlap and then I'm going to try some brazil nuts upon waking. I don't want to go on a pump.

Apologies for the length of this thread. Any thoughts on the basal amounts for the day though?

There's a thing like DP, but not DP that seems fairly common - a kind of "getting up phenomenon" which I definitely get and seems to affect lots of others too.
My BG is ok when I wake, but as I step out of bed, it starts to rise and, like yours, will often continue to rise through the beginning of the morning.
I currently deal with this by bolussing pretty much as soon as I get up and bolussing two or three extra units (I've pretty much worked out the amount using trial and error) on top of what I'd need for my breakfast.
I then do all my usual morning stuff and eat 30-40 mins later.
That seems to pretty much arrest the spike and set me up for the day.

@crumpy, try eating and injecting upon waking and don't leave it for an hour (if possible) as you are doing now and see if that makes a difference, I get a liver dump soon after waking if I don't eat, by eating it switches it off and so you can control your bg levels better and not have to take correction doses.
