Did you continue to increase your dose until you had a hypo either overnight or in the morning.......?

lows at 10/11 would also have some contribution from your morning dose of Levemir.........

so initially you should only focus on the bedtime Levemir holding you steady from before bed till you wake.........if your suffering from dawn phenomenon you would be looking to achieve a steady blood sugar till 3 am at least.....

I suffered and still do from the dawn phenomenon, it is a pain and hard to beat if it all, so I sympathize.......

also when i drink maybe 4/5 measures of spirits i dont spike at all

It definitely sounds like dawn phenomenon..............

to tackle this I made sure I was taking my Levemir before bed and immediately as I got up, made sure I had something to eat shortly after I got up also in order to stop the liver dump......

I had the CGM in October still waiting....

when i get up i check my BS take my levmir then my novorapid. if im still a little high when i wake up, i have a shower before eating breakfast which consists of wheatabix and a small amount of milk

I am thinking the same as novorapidboi26 - that the hypos at 10-11 are probably your morning levemir - or both of them combining in which case it is still the morning one that would need adjusting cos it sounds like you don't have enough at night.

From my CGM I know I sometimes have morning phenomenon and sometimes I don't (like you)- still not got to the bottom of why - I need to do some more experimenting with eating/alcohol (which sounds great ) to see whether I can see a pattern at all and also look at whether I have been hypo in the last 12 or even 24 hours and whether any of that comes into play too (another train of thought a friend suggested) - also exercise but I haven't built in a regular spot for that yet! I know from my experiments on me that when my morning phenomenon thing is going on any processed cereal just adds to that spike - weetabix, special K all of them…but porridge with a teaspoon of brown sugar (cos sweetener on porridge is just disgusting!) seems to be a far flatter food for me and so I don't spike quite so high after brekkie.

That looks fairly stable overnight - if you go on the rough basis that 1 unit of novorapid brings you down about 3mmol and you injected the novorapid around midnight ish then in theory it looks like it was the novorapid which probably brought you down to 7 at 4am….then you have a gradual rise of about 5mmol. It is really hard to get the full picture with the novorapid on board as well as the levemir - so I think the ideal would be, try and go to bed a little bit lower, or low enough that you don't feel the need to adjust and then see what happens….it is possible that you might need to tweak the levemir up another unit or so but I wouldn't like to say until you have had a night with just the levemir working if that makes sense.

The other thing about changing your levemir doses that I have been told by Drs and experienced a little bit, but don't have the evidence to back it up, that once you have changed it you need to leave it for a couple of days so it all settles in as it can change (obviously if it causes a hypo then I would change it straight away, but sometimes you can find it works perfectly the first night, and then not so well the second and you just need to change it a little…but it sounds like you are really close to getting it sorted so well done

Morning phenomenon I am not sure about - I know that pumps can help with it as you can program the insulin to give you more as you wake up to counteract it - so something to talk to the Drs about. I just inject the minute I get up and wait about 15mins before I eat to lessen that peak and have really low glycamic index food to help smooth it all out.

It Conor can u explain about your am quick acting ? If your high do you wake up early take some then have a second shot for breakfast or is it a case if waking up early to do your breakfast shot and taking extra ?
Sometimes I have to take 9 units novordpid am even tho I have a v low carb breakfast
I have upped the levemir by one to 9 units tonight and will test during the night I'm already at 14 now but am too worried about doing a correction shot before bed now so I think I'll leave it?

Hi There yes i would take a couple of units a few hours before i get up and then take the rest when i get up and eat breakfast, when i have to do this i dont really take more than i normally would more like splitting the dose so im not as high when i get up. i dont do this everyday some times its worse than others. my breakfast is the most carby meal i have all day (2 wheatabix with a small amount of milk) but i feel the amount of insulin i have to take with it is pretty high at 16 units. this is the only time of the day i need to take doubble digits of insulin.
