Hi all,

I have had type 1 diabetes for 11 years and im also 8+4 weeks pregnant.

my problem is I just cant seem to get my sugar levels at a normal range in the mornings. They tend to always be high first thing - ranging from 9-14 this has always been the case even before being pregnant, but of course I am even more concerned now as I need to keep tighter control.

I have put my alarm on during the night to test and it seems my bs creeps up slowly overnight. For example
before bed at 10pm I tested at 7.1
at 00:00 8.4 (took 1 unit novorapid)
at 03:00 8.6 (took 1 unit novo rapid)
7am 8.9

But last night i only took one correction throughout the night as i forgot to wake up on my second alarm and this morning my bs was 13.2

My insulin regime is novo raid and carb counting at a 1:1 ratio and 18u lantus around 10pm.

Has anyone got any advice or suggestions or been in a similar position I really want to get my levels in the morning right asap because Im scared for my unborn baby.

Thank you

Hi Cidem

Contact your DSN and hospital clinic as soon as possible. Your current regime isn't getting the levels you need for pregnancy, and they need to help you to fix it.

Have you been considered for a pump at all? Where I live they often put pregnant women onto them as this can help with managing the fluctuating basal rates - they do take work but if you are willing to invest the time then it could be a big help.
