Hi everyone!
Once again I have a newbie type 1 question.
I was diagnosed (on the back of DKA) a month ago. Once out of hospital my readings were really good for a week or so (potentially honeymoon period) then I had a cold and they went a bit funny. Now they are generally back under control (woohoo) but my morning readings are a little on the high side. This morning was 9.2mmoles/L so nothing crazy but I'd love to know if there was something I could do to make them better. My evening readings are generally fine (although sometimes I'm assisted by the odd glass of wine).
So I was wondering:
1) Whether I should think about upping my basal dose (which I do first thing in the morning). My DSN initially put me on 25 units and I've since upped to 28. This seems quite high - should I go higher?
2) Could I be choosing the wrong injection site? I'm currently doing top of my thighs and rotating it around. I don't have much fat anywhere on my body except my tummy (where I have more than enough
) but I use that for my novo rapid so have avoided that.
3) Should I take less basal in the morning and then take a shot before bed? I've heard some people do this.
Naturally I will check with my excellent DSN - I just thought it would be interesting to hear from other members of the community as to their experiences.
Thanks so much in advance for any advice. What did newly diagnosed type 1s do before the internet?
