Hi,

Overnight I went from 8.5 up to 10.5 and I have no idea why. I know about the dawn phenomenon but o thought that only happened when it dropped low during the night and I highly doubt k dropped low with an 8.5 reading before bed. Could there be any other explanation?

As @azure says this isn't to do with dropping low. I have been advised that blood sugars do get elevated prior to waking up.

I am not sure what constitutes a satisfactory rise but I would say an increase of 2 is probably still in the limits of it.

DP aside it could anything from a meal you had the previous evening (such as one that is high in fat) or even a bad dream.

The obvious cause of a overnight bg rise is your basal dose not being correct, but you should never make adjustments going from one nights readings and the usual advice is to test for a few nights before making basal adjustments.
