Morning testing.

Hi everyone...I saw my doctor yesterday,and he is very pleased with me testing everyday and said I am due to have my blood sugar tested again in 3 months,and to keep doing what I am doing,but he also said its only the morning readings that he is most interested in,can some one tell me why this is,I mean why is the first reading of the day so important...Thank you...I was 10.2 when told I had Diabetes 5 weeks ago,and my morning readings when I wake are normally in the 7s,is this good...xox
 
Well done for getting your BGs down! Good progress.

I think they like the morning (fasting) readings because they are least likely to be influenced by recent food intake and so give a snapshot of the current 'background'. That's not to say it can't be affected by other things mind, like dawn phenomenon.
 
Thanks for your reply ,I test before I even get out of bed,and do you know what time is best in the evening to have a snack,I can't eat anything crunchy because I have no teeth lol,am in the middle of getting my false ones,but last night I was peckish,but just confused as to what time I should not eat...xox
 
Are you low-carbing Rosemary? I find that eating three meals a day whenever possible reduces the need for snacking because you eat until your body says you are full (never the case with bread etc!) and that usually does me until the next meal. Nonetheless if you feel hungry you should probably eat something - nuts are out for you at the moment lol but you could try cheese, or an egg, or a few berries with cream?
 
Yes I am low carbing,I do have sugar free jelly with cream,I love it,but was just wandering what time is best not to eat before bed.xox
 
hi, i don't think there is a set time, eat when you are hungry, if it stops you sleeping well, then eat earlier

i think the first reading in the morning is the most unreliable as our livers dump glucose into our blood around dawn so it will be affected by that, a test when your hungry before a meal would make more sense to me but I'm no doctor :)
