I have just been diagnosed with, I'm guessing, type 2 - I'm 40 and my blood sugar levels are around 30.

I'm waiting to see my gp to see what medication I should be on, hopefully he will ring today! I left hospital last night with no medication as they had non suitable in the hospital, I have been given no information or advice about diabetes so I am really glad I found this site.

hya catherine,
welcome to the forum,
if your dr doesnt phone make sure you phone them before closing today,
may i just add that if you start to feel really unwell to get to hospital as i was thought to have type 2 and while waiting for a gtt test i took really ill and was diagnosed type 1,
have a good read of the forum and ask as many questions as u need :D

Hi again

I am taking Gliclazide tablets now but my blood sugar is still 30 - is this high? should I be concerned?

(My brother is type 1 diabetic and we would be concerned if his blood was 30!)

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Thanks, I am confused as hospital didnt seem too concerned as I'm 40 and therefore must have type 2.

Do you think a blood sugar of 30 is OK for type 2?

I have an apt on Tuesday with GP - do you think its OK to wait until then?

Catherine

No, a blood sugar level of 30 is not acceptable for any diabetic!!!
You are risking serious complications with levels that high.
You need treatment now, please phone NHS direct.

Sorry to be a nuisance - I have glucose in my urine but only a trace of keytones (blood sugar 30 therefore the hospital ward say its ok to wait to see my GP! do you think I am being given the wrong advice.

I feel unwell, eye sight down, thirsty etc....

catherine,
if you feel really unwell i would seriously go to casualty/a&e as i say i was same and took ill really quick so go with your gut instincts :)

Catherine,

I was diagnosed with a BG of 13 and told that this was very high and that I must see my GP that very day. I am no expert, but the advice you have received thus far is from people with considerable knowledge and expertise. Please do take their advice.

Regards Steve.

Hi

Thanks for helping me!

I have been diagnosed with type 1 and did my first injection today at the hosital!

The hosptial had, in error ,discharged me when my blood was 51! - they have started a critical incident investigation!

I'm feeling a little confused about it all but am sure I will be OK.

Doing my first injection on my own at tea-time!!

Once again thanks

Catherine
