Does anyone have recommendations to how I can protect my T1 DD from mosquitos while we travel?

You can purchase mosquito repellents that work to some degree.

I find taking 1 antihistamine a day for 10 days before travelling and continuing to take 1 a day whilst in another country cuts down DRAMATICALLY how much I get bitten, they love my blood and I used to be covered but now I only get maybe 1 or 2

I'm astonished you feel the antihistamines cut down on the number of bites you experience.

As another mosi all you can eat banquet, I also utilise antihistamines. My theory is though that the anti-h does nothing to prevent bites, but I don't react nearly as "enthusiastically" to any bites I do get. The redness, swelling and itching is much reduced and there is far less chance of my scratching the bites, and ending up with infected, scabbed messes.

I also apply a personalised anti-mosi repellent formula, which contains citronella, tea-tree oil, E45 lotion, topped up with water, and some polysorbate 20, which acts as an emulsifier. I prefer to use the oils, rather than Deet or other aggressive chemicals.

An energy company I worked for used to issue its outdoor workers with the Avon Skin so Soft lotion to deter mozzies. Make sure it's the original fragrance.

Thanks Chris. Did it work for them? I think (hope) I ordered the right one. My DD likes the thought of adult smelly cream instead of smelly medical one so let's hope it works. Promise to update post.

@AndBreathe maybe I do notice them less as I'm not itching I don't know, it does make more sense that I'd just react less rather than have less bites, although someone once thought I had chickenpox I had so many bites and I definitely don't react that badly now lol

For the short while I tried SSS it worked fairly well, but just didn't like the smell, and nor did my OH, so we reverted to the magic bespoke potion we make up in minutes now.

AS someone who was never very attractive to mossies, whilst you might mention your T1 DD daughter @W00sterz00ey I suspect it has little to do with T1!

You're prob right @tim2000s but if I can make her life easier in any way and reduce irritations - it's worth it
She reacted badly to bites pre the T1 so I want to be prepared.

The antihistamine trick works very well. I don't go as far as @Mrsass , I just start taking the one a day tablets on the outbound flight. Now that I spend longer overseas, I just take the tablets for a few days until I start to take on some colour. Bizarrely, the mosis don't seem to like biting tanned skin so much. I'd speculate it gets a bit tougher with the tan. I know, I paint a lovely picture.

I don't know how old your daughter is, but it might be best to check she's suitable for the tablets, if you think they might be a go-er.

Thanks @AndBreathe. She's 9 so will check w Dr. I heard that B12 supplement also makes your skin smell and they don't like it. Can B12 harm a T1 child?

Ah I've tried just taking them from the day before - well actually I just forgot to start taking them in advance - and they didn't work as well... And I don't tan at all so the tanning thing wouldn't work for me.. I usually come back paler than when I go

Aerogard .....and we oughta know as our mozzies are bad. With this stuff, they won't come near you. Best you can get and works. We invented it and "brill" as you guys say.

Sprays, creams or roll ons. Just get the spray ....
