Can loss of taste and mouth sensitivity be due to Type 1 diabetes?
I’m a late onset (3yrs) and also have recently diagnosed Scleroderma. Two different autoimmune diseases … neither in the family history. Just my luck. To be positive although stiff joints etc I have no pain…yet.

Hi Wee eck,

It’s quite possible that your loss of taste and mouth sensitivity could be related to both Type 1 diabetes and Scleroderma. Studies have found that Type 1 diabetes can affect taste recognition, especially for bitter and sour flavors. Scleroderma, being an autoimmune condition as well, might contribute to these symptoms due to its impact on oral health. It’s always best to discuss these symptoms with your healthcare provider for a more personalized assessment and guidance
