Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with Type 1 in April this year while I was at uni, which meant that all of my care was initially based in that area. Pretty much as soon as I left hospital I met with a DSN who I was able to contact when I needed advice and I saw a consultant twice between April and September.

I am now working in a differnt area of the country and although I have visited my GP to ask for a referral to a hospital team I have yet to hear anything. I was just wondering what other people's experiences have been - how long do these things normally take?

I feel like I've lost my way a bit recently, finding it much harder to control my levels and I would quite like to have the support of a DSN just for piece of mind if nothing else.

Do you think that I should be trying to chase this up? Or does this length of time (2 months +) tend to be standard when you move area?

Any/all advice gratefully received :)

If it was me, I think I wouldn't worry about standard practice, I would just get on the phone right away, spell out my situation as you've done here, and expect to get answers.
As others will know on this forum, I don't always practise what I preach! I have been known to dither. But I don't recommend it.
If one avenue doesn't work, try another, eg ring your local hospital, the switchboard, the diabetes clinic, another hospital if necessary, your GP practice, and all the different GPs therein if necessary. Until they clock that you are a new diabetes patient in the area and must get the support necessary.
