moving from levemir to lantus

hi all
just been talking to my sons nurse this evening and its been decided that levemir isnt working for him so next week we are changing to lantus, now a friends son is on it and has has great results but have read a few posts and there seems to be some issues with lantus so what do i do for the best any ideas??

There are people who post on this Forum who consider Lantus something to be avoided at all costs and have posted much information here about the drug for some time now.

Some of the comments became too emotive and members were warned to tone down the comments.

There is also a large number of people around the World who use the drug with no problems.
So, read up on it, ask questions and ultimately the choice is yours.

Not everybody has a problem with it.

I changed from levemir to lantus at the beginning of the year. For me, levemir gave me great control but I developed a skin reaction to it. I went temporarily onto insulatard (which didn't suit me at all) and then onto lantus. I haven't had any problems with lantus, it has been fine for me. A friend has also been on it for some time now and has great results.
As we are all individual, so is our lifestyle, diabetes and management: if you give it a go and keep an eye on its effect, if it doesn't suit your son you can always try something else.

I've been using Lantus and have nothing bad at all to say about it. I find it lasts the whole 24 hours, and I find my glucose levels very stable and predictable. I did find it stung if I put it in my tummy so I always try to put it in my bottom but sometimes use my thighs with no problems. I got the night time hypos when I was on too much but I just reduced it by two units at a time until I could go to bed on 7 and wake up around the same number. I agree that lots of people hate it but eveyone is different so don't worry about giving it a try. Plenty of people are great with it xx
 
hiya all thanks for ur replies they have eased my worries abit i think we will give it a try as levemir doesnt work for him at all (violent moods swings and very unstable bloods) and at this point have to give things a go im hoping for a pump but in the mean time we need to find something that suits lets just hope that is lantus

me on lantus as well and excellent control since been diagnosed and no night time hypos (at least not that i am aware of) but don't always feel the best. Think it might be to easy to blame the lantus and other factors. Reluctant to change as very good control and may consider changing only if things start to get considerably worse. Sometimes people think the grass is always greener on the other side but also there is no harm in trying.
