Mulled Wine....

Hi guys! just found this forum! it has been a god send as i am just out of hospital with DKA. getting better with BG between 4 and 7 generally this week. Had a glass of mulled wine tonight and it sent me uo to 19.3........! anybody else had this?
 
Shame isn't it...I love the stuff. Has anyone tried a home recipe, which doesn't have the sugar...I was hoping there may be an alternative. I know that it is never going to be teh most diabetes friendly drink in teh world...but it would be lovely to be able to have a glass or two as a christmas treat.

Tempted to cook up some red wine, brandy, orange cinnamon etc...sans sucre..but don't want to waste a bottle of red if it is going to be undrinkable...has anyone else tried?

I know, as a T1, I could just have a massive bolus...but would pprefer to avoid this..even at christmas.
 
try using sweetener instead of sugar - splenda is heat stable - there are loads of recipes on the net just google sugar free mulled wine - can't post a link because there is advertising on the site but the site I found had a few recipes for other nice warm "winter" drinks too! :D - it was 3rd or 4th down from the top of the google page
