nhs. religion for the sake of it.
hi everyone, mum went on byetta on thursday night tea time and so far she has had no nausea and her bg levels have come down but not too drastically just enough to keep her positive.
also we may have found the cause of her awful wobbles SALT too much salt. when she has nearly no salt she feels better. because mum loves bacon and sausages and she is low carb she has been having more of these and her wobbles have gotten worse and worse. and because we have stopped her having bananas because they increase her bg levels she hasnt had the potasium that they contain which rids the body of excess salt! so hopefully she will now get better. :D :D :D
so anyone out there who is going on byetta, dont worry not everyone gets the nausea! :)
hope this helps some of you!
love p.xx

Hi paganlass,
Glad to hear that things are improving for mum.
High blood pressure is a problem as far as salt is concerned. Did the medics suss this one out ?
There are plenty of other foods rich in potassium and if you google it you will find lists of them.
You must be feeling more relaxed about her treatment regime and I wish you all the best.
Catherine.

Hello Paganlass

Good news then :)
I hope your mum will be much better using Byetta. There now seems to be a growing number of diabetics being transferred from insulin to Byetta or using insulin as a combo.

I also had a slight problem with my salt levels. My blood sodium level was a bit low. It got put down to me eating too many bananas. I enjoy eating them and find that they for some reason, do not cause my bg to go up hardly at all. Instead of eating 2 per day, I cut back to 1.

All the best anyway

hi catherine and ihs, no the medics did not figure out mum had a salt problem they just dont want to know. it was a few clues, although her blood pressure was ok she did have really bad peeling lips and i know that sounds funny but when she felt better and less wobbly her lips where fine and when her wobbles were so severe that she could barely stand her lips were horendous they looked like a snake shedding its skin!
she is now on the byetta and is tolerating it really well! fingers crossed :)
she has been on it since thursday night and she seems fine so far. she was on around 26 to 30 units of nuvorapid per day and 36 units of lantus but now she is on the byetta she is only on 22 units of nuvorapid and 30 of lantus. her bloods havent shot down they have reduced gradually which gives mum more confidence. in fact last night her bg was only 6.9! and she never gets that at night it is usually 10 or 10.2 ish so its definatly working :D :D
hopefully this will be a new chapter for mum at last.
oh and we are changing gp and hospital and consultant!!
thanks everyone for your support i couldnt have coped without you.

Well done paganlass, your perseverance has paid off. She is certainly coping better on the byetta.
Best wishes to you and mum, hope your new team will be more caring. (They will be, no one could be as bad as the present ones).

Catherine.
