Hi I just want to share my current conditon with you.

I am fasting for past one week. Before fasting my level range 8-10 two hours after meal. I take metformin on and off and do walk for 30 minutes after food.
After i started fasting my BG level improved dramaticaly. At end of the day I eat a lot. 3-4 cups of sweet juice and deep fried food too. No metformin and no time for excercise. I was really worried about my diabetes but when i checked my GB i was surprised to see it showed 6.5 on day one. Next day and then everyday two hours after heavy meal remain below 7. I will say 5.5 to 6.5. I will keep checking for next 2-3 weeks. I hope i can reverse my diabetes.

That is very interesting israrhk. Please let us know how you get on. My practice always act asthough we diabetics are likely to die if weeven fast for a blood test!
How do you mean you take metformin on Nand off?

Well this is month of Ramadan. Muslims all over the world fast for one month. I was Very worried before but when I started I did not find any difficulty and now I am happy of two things. One I am able to perform religious duty and second my diabetes show good results. I will keep posting my result.

Very brave of you israrhk. I realised you were fasting for Ramadan. I understand that diabetics may be exempted , is this correct?

Before I was diagnosed I only really used to eat in the evnings , and I have been told that I must have been diabeic for years but manged o keep it at bay.
I can't do that now - too many medications , but find your story very interesting. I hope you manage as well throughout Ramadan.

That's brave of you.
I believe fasting is optional for diabetics, but I'm not surprised your blood glucose has come down. I'm not Muslim and don't fast [ For Lent, we Christians merely give up something we would enjoy!] I do sometimes have a couple of days when I eat very little. I find keeping BG down then very easy. I don't often go without my Metformin, but I know Ican go a few days without quite safely.
There is no reason why T2 diabetic can't fast safely if not using insulin. Insulin users have to "Feed" their insulin, but I suspect they could fast for a little while with a lot of careful testing. The medical professions wouldn't approve of my saying that though.

5.8 Yes this is correct. My today reading two hours after eating watermelon, mangoes, dry date, congee soup, fried pakora, half bread chapati and 3 big cups of mango milk shake. I eat until I can't move. No metformin for past one week. No exercise after meal. Infect I can't move after I eat So much.I will keep posting my daily results

Hello Israrhk,

Glad that you are doing so well.

Only as a suggestion, as well as checking on the 2 hour mark, it may be worth while checking at the 3 hour and 4 hour mark.

As some food take there time to get into the system.

Cheers
Simply.

Hi I did check my BG 2 hours after food and it was 7.1 i did check again an hour later and it is 7. Any suggestions or advice. Is it normal? I am not on diet control or any medication for past 10 days.

Hello Israrhk,

I am no expert, but if after 3 / 4 hours you are 7.x mmol level, then in my view your blood sugar is running too high.

I am sure other will be able to expand on this further, as I would not want to give out any wrong information to you.

Take care,

Simply

Hi Israrhk

I do think you ought to take metformin before you go to bed after your evening snack. This is the difficulty really because taking this on an empty stomach can upset you tummy slightly.

Maybe you could have, after sundown, some berries and a plain yoghourt, some chicken and some cheese. I don't think that fruit juice is a good idea because it's laden with sugar (fructose). That might explain why your BG is so high two hours after food.

Also, I am curious: as I understand it, Muslim Diabetics are not obliged to fast during Ramadan. Is that right? I understand a fatwa was issued which exempted them from this religious obligation.

Hi Dave, thanks for advice. The reason why I don't take metformin because I really don't want to rely on medicine . I want to control it with diet . My condition is not really that bad and I am able to fast for the time being . You are right any sick person with health problem is exempted . Thanks again

Fasting exemptions - Menstruating women (although many devout fast after Ramadhan one day for each day lost); pregnant women, those suffering from illness and lastly those on long journeys of hardship. If the faithful wish to ignore these exemptions then all, but for menstruating women, lie within their conscience.
