He has been working in Kuwait and on a recent phone call from him he was telling my Mam that he was thirsty all the time, eating loads had no energy and his eye sight was really blurry and had lost 2 stone in weight in a few weeks. After the call I said to my Mam that I think he was Diabetic and so he flew home today, When I popped in from work I made him take a ketone test on a urine stripand sure enough it was maxed up with the reading. Took him to the GP,s and the Dr done another urine test which show really high BS reading and keytones so had his bloods done and will get the results on Friday or before if the Dr feels it nessissary.

Type 2 runs in the family on my late Dads side and as far as I know I am the only type 1, just don't think my brother will cope if its either of them as his a big eater and loves the carby stuff. His a driller on the rigs but currently not on them with alot of rig workers getting laid off 2 years ago.

Just wanted to vet this out as my heads going mad atm

Sorry to hear about your brother .. I have the same with my brother .. he's older than me, but I got the heart problems and T2 diabetes before him .. My brother also works in Kuwait ... small world LOL

well I think no one would have thought that I would change lifestyle totally, but well I did and now I am almost in 7 month as fit as I was 15 years ago... maybe your brother will change like me... sometimes we are wise enough to know that if we want to get a good life we have to change strategy and lifestyle big time

@Gaz-M I'm sending you and your brother each a virtual hug. He's hit the jackpot with access to your diabetes experience and I'm sure with your support he'll not look back.

Hope the tests get turned round quickly.

Very best to you both, love Snapsy

:)
wish i was sure sure of that Snaspy, his very different from me lets just say very stubborn at times but coming back from the GP,s he seemed to be listening some. Time will tell I suppose..

Thankyou btw for the virtual hugs

Very true Freema and I will make sure if it's the last thing I do get him to join the forums once he gets the results, which I'am in no doubt sure that he is Diabetic

Over a little time I'm sure he'll get to grips with it - it's a process. Do send him our way, won't you? I mean here, on the forum.

:)

Edited to say - crossed posts! My question already answered!

I will send him this way, I tried when he was still in Kuwait but like I said his a tad stubborn, in a short space of time as I don't want him to dwell on it at presant I have explained in brief about keeping his carb intake low etc, and when he comes over for tea tomorrow I will make him cauliflower rice to go with the chilli I have made, I don't really try to low carb but when working my daily average is around 80-90 carbs a day but even on days off maximun its 120, SO if I can get him to come round and eat what I prepare it will put him in a good starting point

the accu chek finger pricker you never see the needle pricking you and it is the one hurting the least too.. its a good choice for a person with a needle phobia
