My dad's care stopped due to the snow

I am so cross today, my dad has morning carers who go to get him washed or showered, dressed and make his breakfast and do his medicine, wash up what ever he needs to start the day. We then have a lunchtime hot meal delivered as he is unable to cook and I take over and make his tea and sort anything he needs. My back up is careline a wonderful service that dad can press a wrist alarm should he need help or his wristband detects if he falls over. The careline service people go this house and telephone me. All this allows my dad to live at home, without it he would be in a care home which we do not want. Today we have snow in West Yorkshire and the world just stops. We were warned it was coming in heavy overnight so it was no shock today but my dad has had a call to say the lady due to come can not get her car out. Well sorry if you live on a hill as I do, move your car to a location near a main road, like we do. It is no excuse, dad was asked if he was ok and that was that. I then get a phone call and feel pressured to go sort him out. I am lucky we work for ourselves but an employer might not be so understanding. My dad then phones again to say his lunch meal has been cancelled. He has managed to make a sandwhich, not ideal for a diabetic but he has eaten. I take him a meal most evenings anyway so he will be ok. My moan is how many poor elderly folk are eft stranded today. If my dad lived in an isolated place I could maybe understand the problem in getting to him but he is 1 street back from a major road that was flowing fine at 7am this morning. We are turning into a national of whimps, we have stayed in all weekend as we had nothing important to do and the weather was not great but if you have a job in the caring profession you have a duty to try get to work. My mum worked for the NHS and if she was on an early 6am start my dad would walk her to the bus stop and she left her car at home but she always got to work for the sake of the patients and other staff. How many frail old people are sat now not having had lunch because they forgot as they are used to it being delivered. It makes me angry and it is why I am moaning

I want to say something julie, but I fear that the moderators would probably ban me from these forums..

Hi Julie42,

You have made a very good point
My moan is how many poor elderly folk are left stranded

This is when neighbour's should be around to help in circumstances like this bad weather.

The carers have got to use their own vehicles and they are not properly insured when adverse conditions happen, They are instructed not to attend.

We all are to blame, Media should get more involved asking people to check on our neighbour's.

Hope it gets better

Roy.

It's unfortunate that many communities now don't even know their neighbours and have no interest in keeping an eye out for them :(
