Why do we have to carry around in our pumps 6 days worth of insulin? (in my case anyway)..

My ideal pump would have a much smaller reservoir that could be filled daily with the 30 or so units I need. So the pump could be much smaller and flatter and more comfortable to wear.

A bit like the omnipod without all the tubing but a lot less bulky.

I do find my pump gets in the way wherever I put it.

Yes, I agree, it also causes lots of waste as I change the set every 3 days but the tubing only at a reservoir change so I throw away lots of unused tubing. I suppose that I could just half fill the reservoir each time.
It would be good to be able to fit prefilled reservoirs in varying capacities. That would allow for greater needs in case of illness or pregnancy etc.

Yes I had a look at the Cellnovo and it does look promising. Its quite difficult to see how big it actually is though.

I just think that the majority of my pump is taken up by thr reservoir and if that were smaller then the whole pump could be smaller. Just partially filling it would make no difference.
A smaller refillable reservoir that could be filled daily seems to me to be a good idea.

I suppose they will get smaller and smaller in the future.
I certainly wouldn't be without mine ..But I do find it annoying sometimes

I hope Cellnovo have paid the appropriate fee to Apple, who I think have a patent on the interface design of their iPhone and iPod?! Very slinky

Re: wastage, I hate this too and the only "wasted" insulin in my setup is any used in priming the infusion set. If the reservoir has any left when replacing the set I always re-use the same reservoir, even if it means a subsequent replacement before I replace the set again. This works for both Roche and Medtronic pumps I've had, but I appreciate other pumps may have different arrangements.

I try not to waste insulin, but I hate throwing away yards and yards of unused plastic tubing. I was thinking if I half filled the reservoir, I'd at least have a reason to change the tubing at the same time, so use it,rather than throw it away unused......
........though its a bit daft to be worried about one thing, the tubing is thrown away along with the individual packages, the boxes, the needle cover, the connector cap, the little plastic bottle that the chlorexidine comes in, the gauze swabs, the thingy that connects the reservoir to the vial', the plunger....
I wonder if a manufacturer could come up with a way of reducing the packaging.

When I was on the Spirit pump the infusion sets came in boxes of 10, 5 of which were the full set (cannula + tubing), the other 5 being the cannula only so less to throw away. Can't remember for the life of me what the set was called though - brain like a sieve, age, <insert appropriate excuse here> :wink:

You're right on the packaging issue - you wouldn't believe the number and type of layers in which my CGM sensors arrive. I suppose I should worry about other things, but it's quite annoying and totally unnecessary.

The ideal pump might incorporate all the "lessons learned" (how I HATE that expression) from the other manufacturers' efforts. Meanwhile, back in this reality...
