Hi all,

I was diagnosed Type 1 at the end of April. Had been having usual symptoms and a glucose pee test came back +++, so went to my GP and was 18.3.
Next day, fasting bloods in hand, I was put onto Apidra and Lantus by the hospital.

Overnight I completely changed my (atrocious) diet, and began monitoring. Started on 6 units of Apidra at three meals and 8 Lantus at night. Lunchtime Apidra has come down to 4 units.

Gone from eating whatever, whenever, to plenty of low gi carbs at meal times only. So far so good, never been lower than 3.2 and hba1c was down 3% to 7.1% at first clinc.

My wife was 7 months pregnant when I was diagnosed (isntit usually the woman that gets diabetes during the pregnancy?) and we had our daughter in June. Sleepless nights have been taxing but managed a holiday with 5wk old across the border to Ireland last week.

All in all, happy with my control, and happy with Diabetes! (might change my mind after a hypo!)

Hi gazhay.
Welcome to the forum. Take a good look around. You seem pretty clued up and motivated as I have seen another post of yours here. However, if you have any questions then just ask.

Ken.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the birth of your child. If you do have a hypo, just make sure it's when it's your turn to do the night feeds! I have 3 children and I remember when they were babies and my husband who is type 1 offered to do a night feed, a hypo would always stop him!

All the best.

Good man Gazhay, nice to see a fellow Norn Irishman on the forum.
All I can advise you is to keep careful watch over your numbers always. I took a "break" last week for a couple of days when I was away from home and my numbers somehow crept up, although not drastically (must have been all those Belgian waffles  ). So perpetual vigilance is the way to go.
Good luck.
